GOODBYE LAYLA'S LONG LOCKS

Story

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for checking out my fundraising page!

I have decided to cut my long locks off (cut my hair short) to help raise money for the McGrath Foundation in honour of my Nana Edwards (Christine) and my Aunty Kandis who have both battled Breast Cancer. My decision has not been made lightly as I LOVE my long hair but I am welling to cut it off for such a great cause.

My beautiful Nana was diagnosed in 2015 with Breast Cancer in both sides, even tho my mum and dad did their best to explain what was happening I knew it wasn't good news. The cancer was detected through a regular mammogram and if it wasn't for that mammogram it may not have been detected so early as the lumps cant be felt by touch.

Nana had cancer in both sides which meant unfortunately she had to have a double mastectomy. The results were good tho as they had got it early and her Lymph nodes test came back clear of cancer, so she went on to have 3 sessions of Chemo to kick it in the butt. 2 years later and Nana is doing great, as she says "She is one of the lucky ones"

My amazing Aunty Kandis (aka Boba Fett) was diagnosed in Nov 2016 she had a grape sized lump in her right breast. I knew this time what was going on after seeing my nana go through it, so I asked all the time how Aunty Kandis was doing to see how she was going. In Feb 2017 she had a single Mastectomy (right side) and reconstruction surgery which took 8 hours, I got to go and see her a few days after her surgery which was great as she was doing so well. When she had recovered from her surgery Aunty Kandis then went onto having 4 sessions of Chemo which made her sick but she handled it like a hero. Aunty Kandis started to lose her hair and my Step Dad (aunty Kandis's brother) wanted to make her feel better so he asked all his brothers and dad if they would shave their heads with him. My Uncle Bre, My Step Dad and my Grandad Beazley all shaved their heads and Aunty Kandis was their to watch it, it was a great feeling seeing how loved she felt on that day. Later we found out my Uncle Corey had also shaved his head when he came home from his FIFO job. Aunty Kandis is getting healthier every time I see her.

These strong women and many just like them are the reason why I am doing this. Even tho they went through this they fought so hard and it wouldn't have been easier if it was for organisations like the McGrath Foundation. So thank you for reading their stories and I hope that what I am doing inspires you to donate.

McGrath Foundation

The McGrath Foundation raises money to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia. Our highly qualified nurses help individuals and their families experiencing breast cancer by providing physical, psychological and emotional support, for free.
From the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment, McGrath Breast Care Nurses are there to help. While over 110,000 families have been supported since 2005, more nurses are needed to meet the growing rate of breast cancer diagnosis in Australia.
With your help, no one misses out on care. Visit www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au to find out more.
